In January of 2021, Danyiel Walker faces new sexual assault charges relating to a victim who was under the age of 14 at the time of the alleged incident which occurred during 2012 and 2013. Initially, in March of 2019, he was charged with 49 sexual assault charges and 10 child pornography charges, involving 6 victims. He volunteered for multiple different organizations that helped support children with disabilities, however, the names of the organizations were not provided.

Cases like these are criminally prosecuted and if a guilty verdict is reached it results in a criminal record and prison time. However, these consequences do not necessarily provide justice for the victims. Sexual assault is mentally, emotionally, and physically distressing for the victims. Although getting the offender punished and no longer capable of causing harm is important, the trauma remains. Although money could never fix the damage done, it can help to afford the help required to heal. For this reason, sexual assault cases can be pursued in a civil lawsuit to obtain monetary compensation for damage done. Not only can the victim sue the perpetrator, but they can also sue the employer/the organization through what is called vicarious liability. Vicarious liability holds employers/organizations accountable for the wrongdoings of their employees while on the job. Vicarious liability also extends to volunteers that organizations take on.
