Peter Des Brisay, a retired Ottawa teacher, was found guilty of professional misconduct after a former student filed a complaint.

A disciplinary committee found Peter Des Brisey guilty of professional misconduct after sexual abuse of a former student in the late 1990s.

Mary Jane Richards, attended a virtual hearing and read a statement about the victim’s impact. Richards, a three-time national cross-country running champion, described years of sexual abuse by her teacher and running coach in a CBC investigation last year.

Daniel Miller, a lawyer representing the panel, told the hearing the college explained that the facts in the agreed statement support the finding of misconduct. Des Brisay’s calculated and manipulative actions could be qualified as sexual exploitation and abuse.

Mary Jane Richards read a statement about Peter De Brissey’s impact on the disciplinary committee. As a result, de Brissey was given verbal reprimands, and his teaching license was revoked.
