Michael Haaima: Kingston man facing 76 charges

Michael Mark Haaima, 37, was arrested in April on 76 charges, including human trafficking, sexual assault and making child pornography. One of his 18 alleged victims told CBC News Haaima was a prominent figure in the city’s tech sector.

Haaima began working for Ferus Media in 2011 and then launched Aviio Digital in 2018. He worked in web design, e-commerce, search engine optimization, brand development and digital marketing.

CBC obtained court records naming 10 victims in Haaima’s case, but the OPP has identified 18 victims and is still seeking more victims.

Haaima , from Kingston, was charged with 18 counts of sexual assault, 5 counts of unlawfully accessing child pornography and 4 counts of forcible confinement, as well as (but not limited to):

  • Sexual assault with choking.
  • Compulsions to commit bestiality.
  • Procuring a person under 18 years old.
  • Trafficking a person under 18 years old. 
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
  • Luring for making child pornography.
  • Making child pornography.
  • Extortion.
  • Criminal harassment.
  • Overcoming resistance by choking.
  • Voyeurism.

Police have laid 76 charges, but court records detail only 60 offences. A victim said it’d been a tough ride since she reported the incident.

Haaima attended his first provincial court hearing since the accusations were made public on Tuesday afternoon. His next appearance at the Provincial Court is scheduled for July 19.
